Blogging Using WordPress
Call me old school, but when I am busy following my passion, which is writing, I want a piece of paper, a black pen and my printed out photos so I can place it all together to feel and see my hard-earned handwritten accomplishment. So whenever the idea of using a laptop or blogging came up, I just pushed it into the corner.
I am a writer for heaven’s sake; what do I know about technology. I want it to be easy, effective and pain-free. When I begin to write, my creative side makes an appearance, and every emotion and feeling comes pouring out onto the page, I don’t want to be worried about how I will put it up on a website, it just sounds too complicated.
But then one rainy night, as I was laying on my back on the floor daydreaming and complaining to my better half about how I want to blog and bring my words and imagination to life, he sat up, looked at me and said, “instead of dreaming about our dreams let’s go and chase them”. And hence my blog was created with the excellent help from WordPress and precisely to my liking; it may have taken me a few minutes to understand how WordPress works, but through my experience, I can narrow it down and explain it in five easy steps:
Step 1: You use your blog’s link name, mine, in this case, is http://equanimitycafe.com/wp-login.php this link will take you to a page where you log onto your WordPress account with your WordPress username and password.
Step 2: On the top bar you will find a logo saying “+new” which you will need to click on. It will then drop down four options that you can choose from, and if you are writing a blog, then all you do is you want ‘post.’
Step 3: You add a headline in the open space that is provided for you, you then insert the story in the big open area that is left underneath the headline.
Step 4: On the right-hand side you move down until you find ‘featured image’ you then choose an image to add. It is straightforward to add pictures on WordPress, the moment you drag an ordinary picture from your desktop into the photo album, it will then appear on your blog to be on WordPress. You will find settings where you can adjust or edit your photo to your liking. (If you want to add the image into the content all you need to do, is click on ‘add media’ and the image will appear in between the content, you can then choose where you want to move the image to.)
Step 5: Again on the right-hand side you will find the categories that you had created by your web developer, you then choose which category you wish to use for your blog. Now all you need to do is press the blue block which says ‘publish,’ and you are set. You will now find your words and picture to appear on your blog.
So yes, believe it or not, it is that simple when it comes to blogging. It may not have the same feel as writing with a pen, but now with blogging, it is easier for me to share my words and images with people, for a writer has his words and his words are those that will inspire others. It is brilliant to think that nowadays we can share and communicate with just one click of a button. No more wasting paper and ink, now whenever I see something that I find beautiful, I go onto my laptop, write my story, take a picture and go onto WordPress and bring my words to life. I am a creative writer, and I enjoy how simple and easy it is to blog using WordPress; I do not need to go through tons of effort to create something beautiful.
